Environmental Policy
Shipping is the least environmentally damaging form of commercial transport, and compared with land-based transportation it is a comparatively minor contributor to CO2 emissions.
Moving cargo by sea is more fuel efficient and emits less CO2 into the atmosphere compared to other forms of transport. Shipping is 8 times more fuel efficient than road transport, and twice as efficient than rail, per ton/klm. For example, it takes an average of 62 litres of fuel to move a 20ft container from Auckland to Christchurch by sea, compared to approximately 500 litres to move the same container by truck.
Pacifica Shipping recognises that we need to have an active policy that both protects the environment and promotes good working practices designed to minimise the effects of pollution.
Our intention is to comply with all legislation, Official Codes of Practice and other practices that assist in providing environmental protection of the air, land, and water. This will be achieved by all members of our staff taking all reasonable and practical steps to minimise the effect of noise, vibration, dust, smoke and any marine pollutants produced by our operation.
Our Company Environment Policy is:
