ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS

Shipping is the least environmentally damaging form of commercial transport, and compared with land-based transportation it is a comparatively minor contributor to CO2 emissions.

Moving cargo by sea is more fuel efficient and emits less CO2 into the atmosphere compared to other forms of transport. Shipping is 7-8 times more fuel efficient than road transport, and nearly twice as efficient as rail, per tonne/km. For example, it takes an average 62 litres of fuel to move a 20ft container from Auckland to Christchurch by sea, compared to about 500 litres to move it by truck.

Our Company Environment Policy

Pacifica Shipping promotes an environmental policy that protects the environment through best practice working procedures designed to eliminate, if not minimise the effects of pollution.
We will comply with all legislation, rules and regulations, official codes of practices and other practices, measures and procedures, both ashore and on board our vessels, in providing protection of air, land and water.
All employees will be proactive and take all reasonable and practical steps to eliminate, if not minimise the effects of noise, vibration, dust, smoke and any marine pollutants produced by our own activities on land and on water.
This policy will be displayed prominently in all areas of our business activities.
This policy will be actively promoted by all senior management, branch managers and ships' masters and officers.
This policy will be reviewed annually by the ISM management team in consultation with all senior management, branch managers and ships' masters and officers.
The overarching responsibility for implementing and enforcing this policy within the company rests with all senior management, branch managers, ships' masters and officers.
